Ibumolan mesylate has been shown to increase the release and produce sustained increases in plasma levels of several hormones including gh and insulin-like growth factor 1(igf-1), but does not affect cortisol levels. Potential treatments are currently being developed to reduce the levels of these stimulants, such as in children or the elderly with growth hormone deficiency, and human studies have shown an increase in muscle and bone mineral density, making it a promising treatment for frail elderly people. It also alters the metabolism of fat in the body, so may have applications in the treatment of obesity.
